99 words & phrases, with matching English cards & workbook My students really like to work independently, in pairs and in small groups, and these vocabulary cards enable them to do that. They find that this way of working really does help them to develop their confidence and embed the vocabulary into their longer-term memory.
The target vocabulary includes essential beginner Spanish words and phrases in the following vocabulary groups:
Los saludos
Los días de la semana
Los meses y las estaciones del año
Los números 0-20
Mi familia
Palabras frecuentes
Frases útiles para la clase
Preguntas y respuestas
The 18-page reference, recall and write workbook gives students a different way of consolidating their vocabulary - writing it out really helps to embed language, and is great for spelling too. There are 3 differentiated recall and write challenges, as well as a full alphabetical Spanish-English vocabulary list, which works well as a longer-term reference resource too.
The 3 differentiated Recall & Write activities really help students practice and review the vocabulary, and to work on spelling and writing in Spanish:
Written Recall Challenge One: students write the English word /phrase from a Spanish prompt, with all the words and phrases grouped together in the same category
Written Recall Challenge Two: with this challenge, students write the words and phrases in Spanish from an English prompt, and again, they’re all group together in the same category
Written Recall Challenge Three: this final challenge ‘switches’ at each question from Spanish to English, and lists words and phrases randomly from each category
Notes and Next Steps encourages students to reflect on their learning.

Task cards really do help to create a lively language learning environment - they’re really popular with my students, and this set is an ideal introduction to, and practice of, Spanish numbers for beginner Spanish students, and for children learning Spanish.
The cards have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarise themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling numbers and beginner Spanish vocabulary.
The questions range in complexity and challenge, and are great for honing numeracy skills too - especially if calculators are not allowed! The question card template enables students to apply their knowledge of language and arithmetic creatively and practically too - my students really enjoy creating questions for each other! Some questions are in English, and some in Spanish, to ensure challenge, and to provide learners with an opportunity to apply their developing knowledge of Spanish, and to infer meaning from context.
The set is structured as follows:
48 differentiated question cards, 4 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper.
2-page answer recording sheet. I print these double-sided to save paper, though I only use recording sheets for more formal assessment purposes - students generally use their class workbooks to note their calculations and responses.
2-page answer key, again best printed double-sided, I laminate these too, as it means I only have to prep them once

High-frequency German verbs dominoes games: 3 games and challenges are a lively alternative to more traditional grammar & vocabulary ‘drilling’ activities. They will help students build up and embed their vocabulary and knowledge of high-frequency German verbs in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher.
There are 99 common German verbs in the infinitive form, along with the corresponding English verbs. Students can work happily challenging themselves and each other to create a perfect domino bilingual verb sequence, on the classroom floor, or on a long(ish) table, by matching the German and English verbs. The game has a bonus multi-focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, and reading, and also helps students identify cognates and words that may look similar to English, but mean something different.
There are three games, each with a different level of challenge:
Challenge One features the verbs in alphabetical order, German to English
Challenge Two features the verbs in random order, also German to English
Challenge Three again features the verbs in random order, but this time from English to German, which works a little different in terms of vocab recall
There’s a full alphabetical German-English verb list, which students find really useful as they begin to build and embed their verb vocabulary - we find it useful to have a quick look through the list prior to playing for the first time, and it’s also really good for some additional whole-group pronunciation practice. Each challenge is on a different background, so that they can be easily identified.

To ensure successful learning, play regularly as you work with verbs and vocabulary - against a timer in teams works well to map both improved recall and word recognition, as well as increasing confidence - students genuinely enjoy seeing if they can beat their own time record.
There’s definitely prep involved - printing and cutting out. I always laminate my dominoes games, as they’re far more learner-friendly, and they last for absolutely years, so once you’re prepped the set or several sets, you will never have to prep the games again.

This set of Spanish conversation translation worksheets is a companion activity to Spanish Conversation Starters 1, though it works just as well as a standalone translation exercise for***advanced beginner Spanish*** and intermediate Spanish students. The content mirrors that of the conversation starters, and really does help students consolidate and embed essential advanced beginner Spanish to intermediate Spanish language across all key language skills.
All the sentences are in question format. There are 200 translation questions in total: 100 from Spanish to English, and then repeated from English to Spanish. Translation is a specific skill that students need to work on carefully and gradually as they progress in their language learning. It’s quite common for beginner language learners to attempt to translate word for word from their first / home language, and though this will work occasionally, it frequently leads to errors.
I remind students that there can be several ways to translate correctly: the important thing is to be sure that the original intent and meaning of the question is replicated in the translation. We discuss a range of possible translations, both into Spanish and into English, as a whole-group, which is a really popular and successful language learning activity. I always include dual translation, that is from Spanish to English, and then from English to Spanish, as this really encourages students to think about language, and to be creative with it.
The questions focus largely on the present tense, with some examples of tenses such as preterite and conditional. I include tenses we may not have formally covered, as the activity is not solely about practicing language, but also actively learning it. I encourage students to look for cues and clues in the questions themselves, and this certainly enables them to engage with new or unknown language successfully, and to progress in their learning.
The translations broadly address the following themes:
= personal information
= family & routines at home
= hobbies & free time
= likes & dislikes
= local environment
= food & drink
= school & studies
= sport & healthy living
= countries & languages
= weather & seasons

Task cards help to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their knowledge of Spanish numbers in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling longer words in Spanish. The cards are useful not only when you’re focusing on Spanish Numbers 0-100, but also for cover lessons, as an all-year-round starter, plenary and general ‘pick-me-up’ activity.
All questions are in Spanish, and range in complexity and challenge, both in terms of language and number skills. I’ve used visual prompts such as math symbols to ensure all learners can engage with the questions, and this helps them to begin to infer meaning from context, and to decode cues and prompts to foster understanding. I don’t allow the use of calculators to increase the challenge a little. Some questions focus specifically on Spanish math language, which students do not always engage with very often. The question card template enables students to apply their knowledge of language and arithmetic creatively and practically, which is***integral to successful language learning***. My students also genuinely enjoy creating questions for each other.
The set comprises the following non-editable files:
48 differentiated question cards, 6 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper. Laminate if possible - it’s definitely worth the extra prep time and expense, as they’re far more learner-friendly and remain in excellent condition for years.

Sopas de Letras are a fabulous way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word in Spanish, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This set features ten differentiated word searches, focusing on a range of vegetables in Spanish, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. The fruits include***masculine, feminine, singular and plural***, with a blend of definite and indefinite articles - this really helps students think a little more laterally about language, and their new vocabulary - they may learn la patata, and it’s useful to give students opportunity to think about grammatical concepts, and how la becomes una for example. I’ve selected high-frequency vegetables, such as potato or cabbage, and also vegetables which may be new to some learners, such as asparagus or artichoke. There are a range of phonemes and sounds too, such as the letter j (ajo)*, which is a sound particular to Spanish, and the letter ñ (champiñones), as the *tilde + n plays a very important role in Spanish pronunciation.
There are 5 Spanish to Spanish grids, labelled with carrots, where learners are prompted with the Spanish words, and look for them in Spanish in the grid. For additional consolidation and practice, each grid also features an English word list that they have to complete, really putting their knowledge to the test. There are also 5 English to Spanish grids, labelled with a pepper, where the prompt words are given in English, and learners have to find the Spanish equivalent in the grid. For additional consolidation and practice in writing and spelling in Spanish, they also complete the Spanish word list on each page. Learners can tell in which direction the words are written by looking at the arrow key on each grid.

An instant introduction to a range of colors in French in the classroom, introducing learners to colors in French from the very beginning of their learning, and helping them familiarize themselves with both the ‘look’ of French words, and how sounds are represented in the written form.
Looking at language, and the ways it works, either similarly to, or differently from, other languages, helps learners become implicitly aware of linguistic concepts, and how adjectives may change according to gender and number. This is really useful for both current and later learning. I often use the flashcards / posters for quick speaking refreshers at various points in an individual lesson, or across a series of lessons, really getting the most out of the display.
The key colors are: black; blue; brown (both brun and marron); cream (both crème and vanilla); green; grey; navy blue; orange; bright pink; pink; purple; red; turquoise; white; yellow. There’s also a poster / flashcards showing the French Flag. There are two backgrounds to choose from: French Flag (Tricolore) and plain without frame, to keep prep costs to a minimum. Print on card stock and / or laminate if you can, as they are easier to manipulate as flashcards, display much more effectively as decor, and remain in excellent condition for years.
It doesn’t matter if some of the colors don’t feature in your immediate or even longer-term learning plan: the posters provide learners with daily opportunities to engage with the written word in French, to develop their recognition and recall of individual words, to identify cognates and near-cognates, and to begin to link spelling with sound in French.

The questions are all in French, and range in complexity and challenge. There are 31 fruits and 33 vegetables addressed in the cards, and it’s unlikely that they are all in your teaching and learning plan. I explain that there are several possible correct alternatives, as translation is not a word-for-word activity, which is definitely useful for them to know from the very beginning of their learning.
The question card template enables students to apply their knowledge of language and grammatical concepts creatively and practically
The resource comprises:
2 Sets of 36 question cards, color & blackline, 4 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper
2-page answer recording sheet
2-page answer key
2-page alphabetical fruits list, French-English & English-French

The set features 25 high-frequency irregular and mixed German verbs in the present tense. There are 6 worksheets, with three differentiated conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations, in two design formats:
= Workbook Format: 10-page workbook, with cover page, verbs lists, six worksheets and Notes, Next Steps and New Verbs page, where students note any points they’d like to work more on, map their progress and list any new regular German verbs they learn, which helps them develop a really useful German verb bank.
= Worksheet Format: worksheets can be printed out individually, or as a pack without the cover page, verbs lists and progress template, useful for quick revision, refresher, starters / finishers, and also generally saves on prep costs
The answer key is a separate file with six pages, and I generally print this out as a pack for classwork, with groups of students sharing an individual pack.
The worksheets also address a broad range of vocabulary and grammar points, such as direct / indirect object pronouns, negative sentences and various question formats. Some sentences include modal verbs and subordinating conjunctions, to ensure that students can practice locating the verb or infinitive accurately. Students may not have engaged with all the language used at this stage, and this makes the activity equally about engaging with new language, as well as practicing and reinforcing the current language focus.
There are three differentiated conjugation challenges:
= Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in sentence format across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding translation. Translating accurately is an important skill for language learners to engage with and master, and this kind of focused practice is really useful for them.
= Conjugation Challenge 2: straightforward conjugation drill: each question gives a German infinitive and a target pronoun. Students write the corresponding German verb conjugation.
= Conjugation Challenge 3: mirrors Challenge 1, with an increased challenge. Students write the German translation from an English sentence, to ensure that they are able to produce as well as recognize both the correct conjugation and an accurate translation.

There are 33 German Christmas words, and I’ve chosen a selection of more generic Christmas words, and also some which are very German-specific, such as Sankt Nikolaus and Knecht Ruprecht. Students shouldn’t attempt to learn all the vocabulary at once, as the objective of the word searches is to engage with German Christmas vocabulary, to really focus on the individual words, genders and articles, and to have lots of practice at general recall, writing and spelling.
The German Christmas vocabulary list is ideal as a long-term reference resource, and really useful for students when they are working more creatively and independently, for example***German Christmas reading comprehension, German Christmas writing activities*** and so on. There is an increasing challenge through the grids, and the differentiation does ensure that all students are challenged.
There are 5 German to German grids, with a vocabulary list to complete for additional consolidation. There are also 5 English to German grids, also with a vocabulary list to complete, which is a great way to really work on students’ recall and spelling. Students can identify the level of challenge by the increasing size of the grid, number of words to search for, and the direction the words appear in, which they can see by the direction of the arrows at the top of the grids. I’ve put a couple of extra challenges in too, to encourage students to look really carefully at the words - for example, they may have to find candles and work out what that is in German - only the prompt die Adventskerze appears in the reference list.
Answer keys are they a great teacher-time saver and give students an additional opportunity to engage with language, helping them develop more independence in their learning. Laminate the answer keys, and distribute amongst small groups of students during classtime - they will remain in excellent condition for years.
